Sony ECM-B10 mount noise reduction with a silicone O-ring

Deutsche Version

If you record while walking, quick movement and grip changes can create low-frequency rumble on the Sony ECM-B10. This is often perceived as mount noise. A small silicone O-ring helps decouple vibration at the contact point and improves noise reduction. It is a cheap fix, easy to install, and the difference is usually obvious in real-world footage.

What you need

  • Sony ECM-B10
  • 1 silicone O-ring in the right size (not too hard, not too soft)
  • Optional: a second O-ring for fine tuning

Quick installation steps

  1. Place the O-ring on the contact area where vibration is transferred.
  2. Make sure the mic remains stable and controls are not blocked.
  3. Record a short movement test and adjust the position if needed.
  4. Try another O-ring thickness if you want a tighter setup.

Practical tips for cleaner audio

  • Very hard rings often damp less than medium-soft silicone.
  • Check fit before each shoot.
  • Do an A/B test with and without the O-ring.
  • If you move a lot, combine this with a low-cut filter.

Result: less handling noise, cleaner dialogue, and less repair work in post.
